It's Fight Fly-Tipping Fortnight!

Fight Fly-tipping Fortnight is Keep Britain Tidy’s national campaign tackling fly-tipping, running from Monday 12th to Sunday 25th October.

Around 38% of fly-tipping incidents are linked to unlicensed ‘rogue traders’, who lure people with cheap deals on social media and then dump waste illegally.

This year, Keep Britain Tidy is exposing ‘The Great Rubbish Removal Scam’ to help people recognise the warning signs, understand the risks and take three simple steps to avoid a #RubbishDeal.

Don't fall for a #RubbishDeal

Rogue waste traders don’t necessarily look like criminals. They can hide in plain sight behind professional-looking online adverts, five-star reviews, tempting prices and promises of quick rubbish removal. Don’t just trust the ad. Check the trader. A cheap, convincing or professional-looking advert does not necessarily mean that the operator is legitimate.

Three simple steps

Protect yourself, your community and your local environment by making three simple checks:

  1. Ask for a waste carrier licence
  2. Check the number on the Environment Agency’s public register
    or call 0300 065 3000.
  3. Check you’ll get a receipt

If someone won't give you the information you need, don't give them your rubbish. If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
