Important message from Dartford Borough Council -

From November 2026 we will be running food waste collection from houses across Dartford, with communal food waste services for flats comming into effect in early 2027.

Households will have two caddies. One is an indoor caddy to use inside their homes and one is a lockable outdoor caddy to leave outside for collections that has been designed so that foxes and other pests can't get inside. Feel free to mark your outdoor caddy with a pen, sticker or paint so you can tell that it's yours.

What can I put in my food waste bin?

Please put the following items in your food waste bin:

  • All uneaten food, peelings and plate scrapings
  • Out-of-date or mouldy food
  • Raw and cooked meat and fish, including bones
  • Tea bags and coffee grounds
  • Dairy products, cheese, eggs, eggshells and yoghurt
  • Rice, pasta and beans
  • Raw and cooked vegetables, fruit and peelings
  • Pet food, including meat and biscuits

Please don't put the following items in your food waste bin:

  • Packaging of any kind
  • Liquids such as milk or juice
  • Oils or liquid fat
  • Any material that is not food waste
  • Pet bedding, cat litter or faeces
